What is a bungee cord?

Abungee cordis anelastic cordmade of:

  • a rubber (latex) core or a multi-filament polymer,
  • a braided or knitted sheath made of polyamide, polyester, polyethylene, polypropylene, aramid, and other technical fibers.
  • with a fitting (hook, loop, eyelet, crimp tube, etc.) at each end.

The elastic cord meets a wide range of mechanical specifications (tensile strength, elongation, flame resistance, abrasion resistance, etc.) in accordance with the customer’s specifications.

The origin of the word:

Eugen Sandow, whose real name was Friedrich Wilhelm Mueller (1867–1925), was a German athlete who is considered the first well-known bodybuilder; he performed in exhibitions and films around the world in the early 20th century

He is widely regarded as the father of modern bodybuilding.

For his workouts, Sandow used equipment featuring elastic rubber bands, which were later adapted for many other uses. Over time, “SANDOW” has become a common noun in the French language.

The bungee cord can also be referred to as a“tensioncord,”“elastic cord,” or“stretcher.”

What are the differences between a strap and a net?

Theflatwebbingorropeis woven in a range of widths (8 mm to 120 mm). It is available in elastic or rigid versions, high-strength, made of aramid (Kevlar, etc.), rot-proof, resistant to hydrocarbons and abrasion, flame-retardant, self-tearing, or meeting other technical requirements. Thewebbingcan be supplied on a spool or fitted with metal, plastic, or overmolded end fittings according to the customer’s specifications. The seams can be high-strength and self-tearing to address issues related to absorbing violent impacts.

Thenet is custom-made, reinforced, fire-resistant, certified, and available in a variety of lengths, widths, and mesh sizes. It is manufactured according to customers’ technical specifications, such as cargo nets, stop nets, and safety nets.

What are the components of a bungee cord?

A bungee cord consists of a core:

  • made of natural latex,
  • any other extruded polymer.

And abraidedcottoncord:

  • polyamide,

What is bungee cord braiding (or weaving)?

Braiding is the technique used to manufacture theprotective sheath of an elastic cord. The braiding process involves covering a multi-strand core made of natural latex, synthetic rubber, various polymers, etc., with textile yarn through the precise rotation of spools. This is a crucial step in determining the mechanical properties of the elastic cord and in customizing it (colors and patterns).

Thebraiding wiremay consist of:

  • cotton,
  • polyamide,
  • polyester,
  • polyethylene,
  • polypropylene,
  • Kevlar,
  • aramid,
  • fiberglass,
  • Technora.

Each elastic cord or shock cord can be braided in a single or double layer.

Is it possible to customize the braiding?

Colors: A wide range of standard colors is available for all yarn grades.
Custom colors can also be produced using dye baths based on the Pantone color reference system.

Patterns: zebra, jacquard, rounded… featuring color markers, squares, solid lines, and waves. Any type of pattern can be considered upon request.

What are the different treatments available for bungee cords?

There are various treatments that can be applied to bungee cords, including:

  • heat resistance and flame retardancy,
  • waterproofing,
  • flame retardancy, IR reflectivity,
  • waterproofing,
  • the rot-proof treatment,
  • abrasion resistance,
  • dyeing,

What are the different ways to set up and assemble the bungee cord?

Crimping,binding, and overmolding can be performed usingsteelor plastichooks, terminals, and ferrules. This process is used to produce finished products such as bungee cords, straps, and even nets.

Any assembly made using ELASTIC, STRAP, or NET with:

  • hooks,
  • loops,
  • carabiners,
  • pods,
  • stainless steel tubes,
  • rings
  • shackles,
  • chains and other fittings.

Elastic cords, straps, and nets can be made of plastic, galvanized steel, brass, or stainless steel.

For all diameters ranging from 1 mm to 40 mm,overmoldingis available for certain parts.

What are the storage conditions?

Under normal temperature and pressure conditions, a bungee cord has the following characteristics:

  • Storage conditions: Store in a cardboard box away from light and drafts, at a stable room temperature year-round. The maximum storage period is 3 years.
